Obama Fans Degrading The Presidency

People have been asking about my stance on the recent 2012 presidential election.  To be honest, I wasn't a fan of either party but I felt Obama was the better out of the two candidates.  I do not have anything personal against president Obama, but the mess he inherited was quite an undertaking to overcome. Having said that, I honestly was not mad that he won.  In fact, I was quite relieved since Romney was simply NOT the right man for the job.

As predicted, it was not long until ridiculous quotes and photos began to surface on various social networks.  For those who do not know, the photograph to the left is a quote from rapper Jay-Z.  This was just one of many godawful photographs that have popped up since election night that depict the president of the United States in an unconventional manner.  Countless people on Facebook and Twitter made quotes such as

Obama should begin his acceptance speech with ALLOW ME TO RE-INTRODUCE MYSELF

Really?  No, really?  If president Obama came out and began his acceptance speech with that quote he would have completely made a fool of himself, made a complete joke of his presidency, and any legacy he hopes to leave behind.

However it does not end there.

I do not know why people seem to think this sort of buffoonery is acceptable.   Referring to the President of the United States as a man who smokes blunts, wears gold chains while throwing up peace signs, referring to him as a "pimp", or referencing him with rap songs only degrades the presidency.  This is a highly distinguished position in our government, not a promotion for a rap album.

I sat on publishing this piece for a few days unaware if I would actually make it public.  However in the following days after the election, the unavoidable notion that this kind of foolishness has reached a new level of ignorance has forced my hand.

To clarify, I am not an Obama supporter.  However I do not hate the man, nor think it is appropriate for American citizens to publicly shun the man on social media.  This is also NOT in any way have anything to do with the color of Obama's skin.  To me, to judge the man based on his skin color is ignorant.  To follow, or not follow, the man based on his skin color versus his policies is IGNORANT.  I can certainly understand that many people are upset by the election results. I also acknowledge that these people have every right to display their anger.  However their anger, public temper-tantrums, or threats will not change anything.  This article is not about those people nor those issues.  This is about people making our president appear to be on par with a common thug, rapper, or pimp.  He is a president, he is not a thug, rapper, or pimp and the people who present him as such, only hurt the mans credibility.

Why would a supporter want to do anything to ruin Obama's credibility?  In fact, this sort of thing only gives non-supporters ammunition.  Why would a supporter want to give non-supporters ammunition to use against Obama's credibility?  To me, it is just foolish.

Photos like this would have been much more respectable.

The photograph above is a depiction of hope and triumph.  It doesn't appear to have any quotes from rap songs, gold chains, or marijuana smoke.  I will speculate that any well respected Obama follower with respect for the presidency would certainly rather have the photograph above than that of the photos degrading our president.

If I were a Obama supporter I would certainly be upset at these ridiculous memes of our commander-in-chief.  However, I see no attempts at Obama supporters doing anything about it.

In my personal opinion, any real supporter SHOULD take offense to this sort of thing.
